Dubuque Epoxy Flooring is an epoxy flooring contractor based in Dubuque, IA, with 20+ years of experience preparing and coating concrete. We install garage, basement and commercial floors, from flake and metallic epoxy to polyaspartic coatings, polished concrete, urethane cement and static-control systems.

Most of what we do happens before the first coat is mixed. A floor coating is only as good as the slab under it, so the bulk of our work is grinding, testing and repairing concrete until it is ready to hold a coating for years rather than a season.

Our Approach

A crew member changing diamond tooling on a planetary grinder tipped back on its wheels in the coated shop of a Dubuque floor crew.

We open every slab with a diamond grinder or a shot blaster, never an acid wash, and we catch the dust with a vacuum at the machine instead of rinsing it toward a drain. Before a price is final, we test the slab for moisture, whether it sits in a basement or a garage and whatever year the house was built. Cracks, spalls and old coatings are mapped first, and when a slab needs repair or replacement before it should be coated, we say so.

Our proposals are written so you can check the work. Each one names the product line, the number of coats and the finished thickness, and it explains what the coating warranty leaves out, starting with moisture. Cure schedules follow the slab temperature and the dew point, so an unheated garage in the middle of winter is told to wait rather than coated on a slab that cannot cure.

Basements are read for past water before anything else, with the sump pit and floor drain checked, because a coating does not stop seepage. We never sell a floor coating as radon work, since radon testing and mitigation take a state credential. Low-odor products are offered for attached garages and basements as a comfort choice, and products for Illinois jobs are chosen to meet that state’s own VOC limits.

For businesses, we phase plant, warehouse and shop floors around shifts, using overnight and weekend windows when a line cannot stop. Kitchen floors are planned around the FDA Food Code the state adopts, with coved bases and texture specified for wet areas. Wherever grip matters, we specify it by the broadcast and topcoat used rather than promising it as a slogan.
